Box Score LOWELL, Mass. – The UMass Lowell women's basketball team hit timely buckets to turn away St. Francis Brooklyn, 64-62, at Costello Athletic Center on Tuesday night.
Â
Senior guard
Jasmine McRoy (Gaithersburg, Md.) poured in a game-high 22 points to help the River Hawks (6-6) top the Terriers (3-9) and push their home win-streak to five. UMass Lowell went a perfect 7-for-7 from beyond the arc in the second half to put away St. Francis Brooklyn and extend their longest win-streak at Costello Athletic Center since 2012-13 when they rattled off seven straight.
Â
The River Hawks maintained a steady lead in the first half that stretched to as many as nine, and took a 32-27 lead into the break. The Terriers would start the second half on a 10-4 spurt that was capped off by a layup from Lead Fechko, putting SFB up 37-36. McRoy and junior guard
Melissa Frase (Tamworth, N.H.) would respond by connecting on three 3-pointers in the ensuing many possessions to reclaim the lead and again pushed the advantage to nine with over three minutes left.
Â
St. Francis pushed back and had cut the deficit to four when Frase sank a triple from the right wing with just over two minutes to conclude the teams scoring. The three proved to be enough for the River Hawks who played solid defense down the final stretch to hang on for the victory.
Â
Freshman
Nicole Riddick (Albany, N.Y.) added a season-high 10 points while classmate
Brianna Rudolph (Lynn, Mass.) chipped in with eight points and seven rebounds.
Â
The team was active on the defensive end throughout recording 10 steals and tying their season-high with six blocks. Eight of the teams' thefts came in the first half where they forced 10 turnovers by the Terriers.
Â
The River Hawks will begin their second America East Conference portion of the schedule on Saturday January 3
rd when they travel to Binghamton for a 2 p.m. tip-off.
