(PDF)WORCESTER, Mass. – The UMass Lowell women's basketball team had their second best 3-point shooting performance of the season, sinking 11 from beyond the arc, but it wasn't enough as they fell to Holy Cross 78-63 at the Hart Center on Monday.
The River Hawks (5-6) cut an 11-point halftime deficit to a single possession twice in the second half but had their comeback hopes turned away courtesy of timely shooting by the Crusaders (3-8).
UMass Lowell cut the Holy Cross lead to two when
Priscilla Dunphy (Barrington, R.I.) sank a corner 3-pointer and
Shannon Samuels (Windsor, Conn.) made an uncontested layup following a steal by
Kayla Gibbs (Teaneck, N.J.). On the next possession, Crusaders junior guard Lisa Mifsud would hit a 3-pointer to keep the River Hawks at arms length.
Mifsud's triple was the beginning of a 14-1 run by the Crusaders to close out the game and hand the River Hawks their second loss in four days. The win by HC also marks their six straight in the all-time series and improves their record to 6-2 against the River Hawks.
Senior guard
Jasmine McRoy (Gaithersburg, Md.) was one of four River Hawks to reach double figures in points, scoring a team-high 14 points and matching her career-high of made 3-pointers, connecting on four of the teams 11.
Brianna Rudolph (Lynn, Mass.) had her second best scoring output as the freshman scored 13 points to go with three rebounds and two assists. Doucette grabbed eight rebounds and Samuels handed out six assists as they each added 11 points in the loss.
Holy Cross' Raquel Scott scored her teams first six points and finished with game-high's in points (26) and rebounds (10).
The River Hawks will have an eight day break before returning to action on December 30 when they host St. Francis Brooklyn at Costello Athletic Center at 7 p.m.
