LOWELL, Mass. – The UMass Lowell women's basketball team wrapped up a four game homestand and picked up their second consecutive win on Sunday afternoon, handling Fairleigh Dickinson 78-67 at Costello Athletic Center.

"I thought our team did a really, really good job of keeping their composure," said Head Coach Jenerrie Harris. "To be up by 23 points and to have it come down the final seconds, they did a really good job to pull off the win."

River Hawks' (2-3) senior captain Shannon Samuels (Windsor, Conn.) sent back FDU's (1-4) Amanda Andrades' layup attempt with just over a minute left to smother the Knights comeback hopes, and secure the victory.

Senior Jasmine McRoy (Gaithersburg, Md.) scored a team- and season-high 24 points, while grabbing nine rebounds and recording four steals. McRoy and junior Melissa Frase (Tamworth, N.H.) combined to sink six of the teams seven first half three-pointers.

The first half was dominated by the River Hawks defense who held the visitors to three points at the first media timeout. FDU shot 35.5 percent from the field in the half, and committed 13 turnovers, which UMass Lowell converted into 17 points.

The Knights forced six turnovers during a 19-5 second-half run to cut into the River Hawks deficit. Up by six with just over six minutes remaining in the game, McRoy used a high screen and calmly sank a three to give UMass Lowell more breathing room at 61-52.

Coming off an impressive debut when she scored 13 points in 10 minutes, River Hawks' forward Kayla Gibbs (Teaneck, N.J.) continued to put her skills on display in limited minutes scoring 10 points in 16 minutes against FDU.

UMass Lowell held the Knights to one three-pointer, forced 20 turnovers and held the advantage in bench points (21-10).

The River Hawks will travel to New York on Wednesday for a 7 p.m. tilt against Columbia at Francis Levien Gymnasium.
