LOWELL, Mass. – The UMass Lowell women's basketball team and first-year head coach Jenerrie Harris picked up their first win of the season in a 93-41 rout over Mt. Ida College at Costello Athletic Center on Monday night.

The River Hawks (1-3) dominated every statistical category en route to ending their three-game skid. UMass Lowell's defensive pressure caused 13 first half turnovers by the Mustangs that resulted in 22 points for the home team.  The nine second-half points scored by Mt. Ida (2-4) were the fewest allowed by the River Hawks since allowing 10 to Bridgeport in 2000.

"It was a great team win, we got a chance to get everybody in and play everybody," said Harris. "The team did a great job of playing defense tonight which was our big focus because those were some of the areas we've struggled in the previous two games."

The Mustangs took a 10-8 lead just over five minutes into the action when UMass Lowell sophomore guard Asia Mitchell-Owens (Roxbury, Mass.) connected on a jumper that sparked a 30-7 run and led to a 49-32 advantage at the half.

The River Hawks got significant contributions from their freshmen as Brianna Rudolph (Lynn, Mass.) scored a game-high 18 points while Jontay Walton (Buffalo, N.Y.) got her first career start and totaled 13 points, seven assists and four steals. Kayla Gibbs (Teaneck, N.J.) also made her collegiate debut and scored 13 points in 10 minutes.

Mitchell-Owens who had connected on seven of nine triples in the teams previous two games continued her red-hot shooting draining three more against the Mustangs.

All 10 players who took to the hardwood got in the scoring column for the River Hawks, including five who reached double figures. In addition, the team set a season-high with 56 points off the bench.

The River Hawks wrap up their four-game homestand on November 30 against Fairleigh Dickinson at 2 p.m.
