The River Hawks (0-1) made their season debut against the Fighting Irish (1-0) while
Jenerrie Harris made her first appearance as head coach in front of the 8,659 in attendance.

Senior guards
Shannon Samuels (Windsor, Conn.) and
Jasmine McRoy (Gaithersburg, Md.) led the team in the scoring department with Samuels netting a team high 16
, while McRoy added 11.

Samuels, an America East preseason All-Conference selection, rounded out her stat line with five rebounds, four assists and a steal.

Three of the teams four freshmen made their debut in blue and red with
Nicole Riddick (Albany, N.Y.) getting the starting nod while
Jontay Walton (Buffalo, N.Y.) and
Brianna Rudolph (Lynn, Mass.) each played significant minutes.

The Fighting Irish started the game scoring 14 unanswered and never looked back taking a 61-24 lead into the break.

Notre Dame's size proved to much as they outrebounded UMass Lowell 50-22 and outscored the River Hawks 66-20 in the paint.

Reigning Atlantic Coast Conference Player of the Year Jewell Loyd finished with 20 points and freshman Brianna Turner had a game high 29.

The River Hawks will take to the hardwood again on Wednesday in their home opener against Rhode Island.Â
