LOWELL, Mass. –
The UMass Lowell men's soccer team hosts a pair of games this week, starting with a non-conference tilt against NJIT on October 22. Then during River Hawk Homecoming on Oct. 25 the squad will take on Binghamton at 3 p.m.

River Hawk Review
UMass Lowell went 1-0-1 in conference play last week, improving its overall record to 5-8-1 and its conference mark to 2-1-1. Wuilito Fernandes (Praia, Cape Verde) and Carlos Ruiz (East Boston, Mass.) scored goals in the 24th and 45th minutes, respectively in the 2-1 win against Stony Brook. The River Hawks enter this week tied for first in the America East with seven points. Austin Kroll (Baltimore, Md.) was named America East Rookie of the Week for the second time this season after making 14 saves in the two games.

Flying High
Ruiz leads the offense with three goals and three assists for nine points. Fernandes has scored a team-high four goals for his eight points. Homero Morais (Somerville, Mass.) has six points from two goals and two assists. Freshman goalkeeper Kroll leads the team with 72 saves and four shutouts. He boasts a 1.41 goals against average with a .783 save percentage.

Scouting NJIT
The Sun Belt affiliated Highlanders travel to Cushing Field with a 6-4-4 record. Their best win came against No. 22 Navy on September 20, a 1-0 decision. Marko Drljic leads the offense with three goals and four assists for 10 points. Cristian Marcel also has three goals. Christian Foust has made all 14 starts in net and has recorded 61 saves. He has an impressive 1.14 goals against average and a .782 save percentage. Max Bradhe has made one appearance in relief.

Head Coach Christian Figueroa on NJIT
"NJIT will be a tough opponent for us, but a good match to have to lead us into our next conference match against Binghamton this weekend. NJIT has had strong year and they will be looking to establish some momentum going into their next conference match now that they are a member of a conference and have an opportunity to compete in post-season play."

Scouting Binghamton
The Bearcats enter the week sitting one spot behind UMass Lowell in the standings with a 2-1-0 mark in conference play. Overall, Binghamton owns a 4-9-0 record. Before coming to Lowell, the Bobcats play in-state rival Columbia on Oct. 22. Alex Varkatzas leads the team with two goals and four points. Six different players have one goal each. Robert Moewes has made five starts in 10 appearances with 46 saves, a 1.03 goals against average and .821 save percentage. Stefan Frantellizzi has made four starts and has recorded 10 saves.

Head Coach Christian Figueroa on Binghamton
"Binghamton has gotten off to a strong start in conference play with two very good victories. This will be a very important game for both teams, as we each look to distance ourselves from the rest of the pack in the conference standings. This will be the first opportunity this team will have to really make a statement in the conference and maintain the momentum we have established in the last week."
