Lindsey Doucette (Hopkinton, Mass.) scored 17 points and grabbed 13 rebounds as she records her third double-double of the season but it wasn't enough as Maine defeated UMass Lowell 75-66 at the Costello Athletic Center, Thursday night in Lowell, Mass.
With the loss, UMass Lowell slipped to 2-16 overall and 1-6 in the America East Conference entering Sunday's matchup with UNH at the Tsongas Center (4:30).
Maine improved to 10-9 overall and 4-2 in the Conference.
Also in double figures for the River Hawks was junior duo
Jasmine McRoy's (Gaithersburg, Md.) and
Shannon Samuels (Windsor, Conn.) who finished the night with 19 and 16 points respectively. McRoy had eight assists.
The Black Bears made four of its first five shots and took an 11-2 lead two minutes into the game. The River Hawks would storm back and take the lead on a 13-2 run of its own, led by Doucette's six points. UMass Lowell took its last lead of the night at the 8:28 mark after a three from McRoy gave the River Hawks a 17-16 point lead.
Maine led 33-26 at halftime.
The Black Bears would stretch its lead out to 20, 66-46, with 7:12 remaining. UMass Lowell gradually chipped away at it but could cut it to only nine at the final horn.
Maine shot .528 for the game (28-53), including .500 from beyond the arc (9-18) while UMass Lowell shot .368 (25-68) and just .235 (4-17) from three point range.
For only the third time this season the River Hawks had the edge in rebounds, 38-36. UMass Lowell won the turnover margin, 22-19, but it was the Black Bears who took advantage with a 25 to 18 in points off turnovers.
Maine's bench outscored the River Hawks 19-5
The Black Bears had three players in double-figures, led by Lauren Bodine with 20 points, 18 from down town as she shot 6-8 from three point land. Ashleigh Roberts and Cherrish Wallace finished with 18 and 15 points. Roberts had a team high 8 boards and Wallace dished out a game-high 11 assists.
