Akeem Williams (Brockton, MA) continued to make his way up the career scoring list while helping the River Hawks win their second road game of the year 74-62 at Maine.
The River Hawks (5-12, 4-3 America East) outscored Maine 45 to 29 in the second half with the help of Williams and fellow senior
Antonio Bivins (Miami, FL) who scored a season-high 25 points on an efficient 10-of-12 shooting.
Williams passed Leo Parent to claim sole possession of 5
th on the list as the senior scored nine points tonight and has now compiled 1,876 points during his decorated career in Lowell.
Bivins made his presence felt early by throwing down three first half dunks with authority and finished the game with five dunks total. He was also a perfect 5-of-5 from the free throw line and got the job done defensively as well grabbing eight rebounds and drawing three charges.Â
The River Hawks trailed most of the first half and several minutes after the break before Bivins made a layup off the assist from Holley to tie the game at 36.
A few possessions later freshman
Tyler Livingston (Hudson, N.H.) made a three from the top of the key to give the River Hawks a 41-38 lead. Bivins added some breathing space following the Livingston trey by scoring a tough shot in traffic before adding another dunk in transition.
DJ Mlachnik (Muskego, Wisc.) hit back-to-back 3-pointers just past the midway point of the second half to give the River Hawks a 54-50 lead.
Kerry Weldon (New York, N.Y.) pulled down a career-high 13 rebounds and blocked two shots while drawing two charges against the Black Bears along the way.
The River Hawks were advantageous of their opportunities throughout the game, turning 16 Maine turnovers into 18 points and finishing with 32 points in the paint.
Junior guard Xavier Pollard led Maine in scoring, putting in 11 in the first half and finished with a team-high 15 overall.
The River Hawks held strong on defense outrebounding Maine 39 to 27 and gave up their bodies by drawing five charges while holding Maine to just 19% on their 3-point attempts.
UMass Lowell will have a few days off before hosting their second game at the Tsongas Center against the University of New Hampshire for a 2 P.M. tip. Sunday will be a double-header with the women's team playing shortly after the conclusion of the men's game. All fans are encouraged to come show their support with the teamsÂ

The Coaches vs. Cancer program is a nationwide collaboration between the American Cancer Society and the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) that empowers basketball coaches, their teams, and local communities to make a difference. Coaches and their staff from both UMass Lowell and UNH will be wearing sneakers during their games to raise awareness about the fight against cancer. Coach Duquette and Coach Behn will be donating $1 to the American Cancer Society for every student in attendance.
