Women’s Basketball: River Hawks Fall 86-63 to the Seawolves

STONY BROOK, NY (Jan. 18, 2014) – Stony Brook shot nearly 56 percent from the field and cruised to 86-63 victory over UMass Lowell, Saturday afternoon in a America East Conference women's basketball clash at the Pritchard Gymnasium in Stony Brook, N.Y.
 
UMass Lowell falls to 2-13 and 1-4 in America East, while Stony Brook improves to 12-5 overall, 3-1 in conference play.
 
Junior Jasmine McRoy (Gaithersburg, Md.) scored a team-high 14 points and freshman Nicole Hayner (Bedford, N.H.) added 12 points.  
 
Stony Brook shot .559 from the field (33-59), including .529 from 3-point range (9-17) while UMass Lowell struggled to a .390 clip overall and .269 from 3-point range (7-26).
 
The River Hawks lead 14-10, 5:45 into the first half, when the Seawolves went on a 24-2 run and jumped out to a 34-16 lead. Stony Brook forced five turnovers during the stretch.
 
The River Hawks trailed 51-31 at halftime.
 
The Seawolves had its way in the paint, outscoring the River Hawks 40-26, and converted 32 points off 17 UMass Lowell turnovers. The River Hawks managed just 16 points off 18 Stony Brook turnovers.
 
The Seawolves also outscored the River Hawks from the free throw line 11-10.  
 
Once again the River Hawks got dominated on the boards, the Seawolves out rebounded UMass Lowell, 38-29. 
 
Stony Brook had three players in double-figures. Junior Sabre Proctor had a game-high 20 points, Sophomores Brittany Snow and Mirandra Jenkins each had 10 points. Snow finished with seven rebounds.
 
UMass Lowell will get right back to action Monday night when they host Hartford Monday night at 7:00 at Costello Athletic Center. Stony Brook will host UMBC Monday at 2:00.
