Men's Results | Women's Results
Senior Brian Donovan (Dracut, Mass.) and sophomore Lucas Parsons (Methuen, Mass.) were the top two collegiate finishers as the UMass Lowell cross country team grabbed the men's title at the 45th annual Codfish Bowl 8K, Saturday, at Franklin Park in Boston, Mass.
Â
UMass Lowell placed four runners in the top ten as the team won the title with 38 points, (1, 2, 8, 10, 17 – 21, 22). The event included ten teams representing colleges and running clubs and some 130 competitors. Stonehill College finished second with 60 points. The Greater Boston Track Club was third.
Â
"These are guys that can make a big difference down the road," said Head Coach Gary Gardner. "This was about getting on the right track, in the right frame of mind and building confidence."
Â
UMass Lowell rested some of its more experienced and more consistent runners in an effort to build depth and give some of the war weary a break.
Â
Donovan completed the course in a time of 26-minutes and 15-seconds good for fourth place overall and first among college runners. The time was five seconds faster than his teammate, Parsons, who finished sixth overall and second among college runners with a time of 26:20.
Â
"Donovan put himself in the lead group and battled," said Gardner. "He ran a solid race and Parsons ran very well; he'd struggled some in earlier races, but here he busted out."
Â
Senior Tyler Sullivan (Methuen, Mass.) finished 8th among scoring runners, 13th overall in a time of 26:50. Sophomore Patrick Ryan (Hanson, Mass.) grabbed 10th place, 15th overall with a time of 26:56. Senior Justin Reddy (Methuen, Mass.) was the River Hawks final scoring runner, finishing 17th, 23rd overall in a time of 27:04.
Â
UMass Lowell did not enter a team in the women's event, but did use the opportunity to give three of its runners additional experience. Freshman Renee Vigneault (Amesbury, Mass.) completed the 5K course in 21-minutes. Sophomore Megan Mahoney (Billerica, Mass.) finished in a time of 21:48 and junior Chelsey Pepin (Manchester, N. H.) finished ten seconds later, 21:58.
