Bryant Squeaks Out 4-3 Win Over UMass Lowell

LOWELL, Mass (Sept. 15, 2013) - Georgia Cowderoy (Ashmore, Australia), Eleanore Agneessens (Brussels, Belgium) and Jahna Driscoll (Green, NY) scored as UMass Lowell jumped out to an early 3-0 lead over visiting Bryant University, but the River Hawks could not contain a potent Bulldogs offense, falling 4-3 at the Cushing Field Complex Sunday afternoon.

With the loss, UMass Lowell falls to 0-4-0 on the young season.

Bryant, who improved to 4-1-0 with the victory, peppered UMass Lowell goalkeeper Melanie Hopkins (Harwich, Mass.) with 11 shots on the day. Hopkins, who entered the game second in America East in saves per game, finished the day with 4 to add to her season tally.

Agneessens opened the scoring in the first minute, beating Bryant goaltender Megan Hancock on the far left. Cowderoy tallied in the 4th minute to give the River Hawks an early 2-0 lead. Driscoll made it 3-0 in the 14th minute, picking up the rebound from Janelle DeCamillis (Little, Mass.) and stuffing it past Hancock.

The Bulldogs found their way onto the scoreboard in the 18th minute as Mallory Hancock took the corner, Mikayl Fitzmaurice tipped it to Rosie Bird and Bird finished of the play to put the Bulldogs on the board. Bryant picked up one more in the first half and then dominated the second half en route to the 4-3 win.

UMass Lowell will be back in action on Tuesday as they host the Quinnipiac Bobcats at 6 PM. Bryant will travel St. Louis, MO Friday to face the St. Louis University Billikens.
