Box Score
The University of Cincinnati scored goals in the 77th and 84th minutes to emerge from a 2-1 halftime lead and defeat UMass Lowell, 4-1, Sunday afternoon in a non-conference women's soccer clash at Gettler Stadium.

With the loss, UMass Lowell slipped to 0-2 and visits Siena College Friday at 4:00 in Loudonville, N.Y. The River Hawks open at home next Sunday (2:00) against Yale.

Cincinnati halted a three-match slide to improve to 1-3 and visits Long Beach State Friday at 10:00 p.m.

Junior Brittany Russo (Danvers, Mass.), who missed most of last season to a knee injury, scored her second goal in as many games. Junior GK Jill Carlson (Lexington, Mass.) stopped nine shots for the River Hawks, who were outshot 13-2 on target.

Cincinnati jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first half behind a goal from junior D Jae Atkinson when she took a cross from sophomore F Laura Rose, held off a defender and volleyed past Carlson.

Russo and sophomore D Samantha Barbeito (Edison, N.J.) combined nicely to level for UMass Lowell just nine seconds later. Off the restart, Barbeito took a back pass and launched a ball over the Cincinnati defense to the speedy Russo, who settled and calmly slotted past junior GK Kristina Utley.

Atkinson played provider to put the Bearcats ahead in the 28th when she set steered a corner kick to freshman M Bailey Wilson, who headed inside the far post.

Cincinnati put the match out of reach in the 77th minute when sophomore D Kelly Latimer crossed to sophomore F Mackenzie Reynolds at the near post, who headed home. The Bearcats added a fourth in the 84th when sophomore F Callie Taylor crossed to junior D Christie Howard, who volleyed home off a bounce at the far post.

Aside from Russo's goal, UMass Lowell had its chances. Freshman Taylor Packwood (Somerset, N.J.) nearly cut the deficit in half in the 86th minute, but her header was just over the bar.

Utley had one save for Cincinnati.
