After a successful winter season for both Indoor Track and Field, UMass Lowell is currently ranked No. 18 in the latest installment of the 2012-13 Learfield Sports Directors' Cup Division II Standings, released by the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) Friday.

UMass Lowell compiled 101.00 points during the winter season. During the fall season the River Hawks scored 186.00 points and now sit with a total of 287.00 points. Ashland sits in first place (589.00), followed by Grand Valley State (558.50) who are both members of the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. Rounding out the top three is Grand Canyon (531.50), members of the Pacific West.

The Learfield Directors' Cup points system is based on each institution's finish in NCAA Tournaments in up to 14 sports (seven women's, seven men's) throughout the academic year.

UMass Lowell is the highest-ranked team from the Northeast-10 Conference and East Region in the standings. American International College compiled 247.00 points and is currently No. 27 while Southern Connecticut (217.00) came in at No. 36, followed closely by New Haven (215.75) at No.37. The College of Saint Rose (205.00) is 41st and Stonehill (199.50) sits at No. 44.

The River Hawks women's track and field team scored 51 points based on its 21st place showing in the NCAA Championship. Led by Juniors Elisabeth Monty (Charlton, Mass.) and Antoinette Toussaint (Somerville, Mass.), who each earned All-American honors, as did the UMass Lowell's women's 4X400 meter relay teams.

UMass Lowell men's track and field team which also finished 21st in the NCAA scored 50 points. The men's 4X400 meter relay team and distance medley both earned All-American honors at the NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championship at the Birmingham CrossPlex.

UMass Lowell's standing in the Cup is the result of another magnificent fall season which saw three teams represented in NCAA Championships.

Leading the way was the field hockey team, which enjoyed its 10th straight trip to the NCAA Tournament and advanced to the Championship match for the sixth consecutive year. The River Hawks posted a 19-4 record and won the Northeast-10 Conference Tournament title for the third consecutive year.

The men's soccer team (11-6-1) matched its best-ever finish in the NCAAs as it reached the East Region Championship/quarterfinal round before falling at Southern New Hampshire (2-0).

UMass Lowell's men's cross country team qualified two individuals – seniors Jeff Veiga (Lowell, Mass.) and Eric McDonald (Groveland, Mass.) – for the NCAA Championship.

The final fall installment of the Learfield Directors' Cup is to be released in the spring.
