The UMass Lowell varsity eights posted a time of 7:37.3 to capture the 2013 Women's Rowing Cup Saturday morning at the Quinsigamond Rowing Association in Shrewsbury.

The first annual regatta pitted the four Northeast-10 Conference members which sponsor rowing – Assumption, Franklin Pierce, Merrimack and UMass Lowell (the NE-10 does not sponsor rowing).

Four UMass Lowell rowers were named to the Coaches' All-Conference Teams, led by senior Melinda Neale (Plaistow, N.H.), junior coxswain Rachel Paquette (Dracut, Mass.) and sophomore Julia Jennings (Lowell, Mass.) on the first team; and junior Rachael Piela (Amherst, Mass.) on the second team.

UMass Lowell defeated Assumption (8:27.9) in the eights on the 2,000 meter course by more than 50 seconds. Joining Neale, Paquette, Jennings and Piela in the eights were sophomore Jenna Bueno (Methuen, Mass.), juniors Megan McLaughlin (Haverhill, Mass.) and Bridget Mahoney (Dracut, Mass.) and seniors Kim Haskins (Taunton, Mass.) and Brianna Trainor (Pelham, N.H.).

Merrimack won the varsity fours race in 8:12.5, edging Assumption (8:15.7) and Franklin Pierce (8:40.1).

UMass Lowell hosts the Greater Boston Invitational Saturday morning at 7:30, and will row with the University of Connecticut, Brandeis, Endicott College, Wentworth and Mass Maritime.
