Softball: UMass Lowell Honors Seniors Before 11-1 Victory Over Saint Michael’s

Seniors Krista MacKenzie (Ipswich, Mass.), Brianna Mahoney (Billerica, Mass.) and Katie Mazure (Burlington, Mass.) were all honored before UMass Lowell defeated Saint Michael's, 11-1, on Sunday morning at Riverview Field in Lowell, Mass.
 
With the win, UMass Lowell improved to 22-18 overall on the season and 12-3 in the Northeast Division of the Northeast-10 Conference.
 
The loss dropped Saint Michael's to 1-33 overall on the season and 1-14 in the Northeast Division of the Northeast-10 Conference.
 
UMass Lowell wasted no time jumping on the scoreboard. In the first inning, the River Hawks scored two runs on RBI singles by Abby Jamieson (Billerica, Mass.) and junior Ali Ferraro (Kingston, N.Y.) to take a 2-0 lead.
 
Jamieson finished the game with three hits; four RBI and a run scored while Ferraro had two hits, two RBI and a run.
 
UMass Lowell broke the game open with a seven run second inning, highlighted by a two-RBI single by sophomore Ariana Darcy (Wallkill, N.Y.).
 
Darcy finished the game with two hits, two RBI and two runs scored.
 
Saint Michael's managed to push a single run across in the fifth inning on a Brittany Cantore RBI single, but freshman Marielle Handley (Durham, Conn.) was able to close the door, handing UMass Lowell its seventh straight victory.
 
Handley picked up the win for the River Hawks and improved to 16-12 on the season. Handley tossed five innings and allowed just one run on three hits while striking out three.
 
Stephanie Frank took the loss for Saint Michael's. Frank pitched one inning plus and allowed nine runs (eight earned) on nine hits.
 
The win was the 400th for UMass Lowell head coach, Sean Cotter.
