Freshman Marielle Handley (Durham, Conn.) picked up her 13th win of the season as the River Hawks took down Bentley University 6-0 in a Northeast-10 Conference matchup on Tuesday afternoon.

With the win, UMass Lowell improved to 18-18 overall on the season and 8-3 in the Northeast Division of the Northeast-10 Conference.

With the loss, Bentley fell to 9-22 overall on the season and 2-9 in the Northeast Division of the Northeast-10 Conference.
UMass Lowell didn't waste any time getting on the scoreboard.

In the first inning, sophomore Ariana Darcy (Wallkill, N.Y.) ripped a double to deep left field that scored sophomore Ally Greene (Tewksbury, Mass.) and gave the River Hawks a 1-0 lead.

Darcy finished the day 2-4 with two RBI and a run scored. The two hits were her 92nd and 93rd of her young career.

Later in the inning, senior Brianna Mahoney (Billerica, Mass.) singled to right, scoring Darcy and putting the River Hawks up 2-0 after one full frame.

UMass Lowell went on to add four more runs, including one in the fifth inning on an RBI single to right field by senior Ali Ferraro (Kingston, N.Y.).

Ferraro finished the afternoon with two hits, upping her career total to 98.

The offense was abundant, but Marielle Handley wouldn't need it as the freshman continued to add to her phenomenal freshman season, pitching seven innings of shutout ball while allowing just three hits and striking out three.

Handley picked up the win for her performance, but more importantly, the victory got UMass Lowell's overall record to the .500 mark for the first time this season.

Carly Taitz took the loss for Bentley. Taitz pitched five innings and allowed five runs (two earned) on six hits while walking five and striking out one.
