Ariana Darcy (Wallkill, N.Y.) who stole the show with a walk-off grand slam as UMass Lowell took game one of a Sunday double-header with American International, 9-0.
With the win, UMass Lowell improved to 16-18 overall on the season and remained at 7-3 in the Northeast-10.
The loss dropped the Yellow Jackets to 9-19 overall on the season. American international is 3-8 in conference play.
With the bases loaded in the first inning, junior
Ali Ferraro (Kingston, N.Y.) grounded to the shortstop, scoring sophomore
Ali Greene (Tewksbury, Mass.) from third on the play.
The River Hawks added to the lead in the third inning when senior
Brianna Mahoney (Billerica, Mass.) doubled to center field. Two runners scored on Mahoney's extra base hit, extending the River Hawk lead to 3-0.
After adding a single run on a hit by pitch,
Ariana Darcy stepped to the plate with the bases loaded and blasted a pitch over the right field fence for a grand slam, giving UMass Lowell the 9-0 victory in five innings.
Darcy finished the game 3-3 with a homerun and four RBI.
Marielle Handley picked up the win for the River Hawks. The right hander tossed five innings and allowed no runs on just one hit while striking out four.
Kelsey Malloy took the loss for the Yellow Jackets. Malloy tossed four and two thirds innings and allowed all nine UMass Lowell runs.

Ariana Darcy notched yet another game-winning RBI as UMass Lowell completed the sweep of American International with a 9-1 victory in game two of Sunday's double-header.
UMass Lowell fell behind in the first inning when AIC scored a run on a single to left field by Steph Belanger.
UMass Lowell tied the game in the second inning before posting a five run fourth to take a 5-1 lead heading into the fifth inning.
In the fifth,
Brianna Martin (Methuen, Mass.) and the River Hawks picked up right where they left off when Martin smacked a single up the middle, scoring Mahoney from third.
Martin finished the second game 3-3 with two RBI.
After a walk forced in a run to bring the lead to 8-1, Darcy stepped to the plate again with the bases loaded. This time, Darcy worked the count before finally drawing a walk to force in the game-winning run.
Marielle Handley picked up another win for UMass Lowell. Handley tossed five innings and allowed just one run on five hits.
Erin Glikes took the loss for AIC. Glikes pitched four innings and allowed six runs on 12 UMass Lowell hits.
