UMass Lowell Sweeps Double-Header with Stonehill in Dramatic Fashion With 3-1, 5-4 Victories

Freshman Anna Crowley came through with a big at-bat in the final inning to deliver a walk-off win for UMass Lowell

Freshman Marielle Handley (Durham, Conn.) pitched seven solid innings as UMass Lowell defeated Stonehill in game one of Wednesday's double-header at River View Field in Lowell, Mass.

With the win, UMass Lowell improved to 13-17 overall and 5-2 in the Northeast Division of the Northeast-10 Conference.

The loss moved Stonehill to 18-17 overall on the season and 5-3 in conference play.

UMass Lowell jumped on the board in the third inning when senior Krista MacKenzie (Ipswich, Mass.)  knocked a solo homerun over the fence in right field. The blast was MacKenzie's first of the season and gave the River Hawks a 1-0 lead.

Later in the third, the River Hawks added two more when sophomore Abby Jamieson (Billerica, Mass.) singled to left field. The single knocked in two runs and extended the UMass Lowell lead to 3-0.

Stonehill would get on the board in the sixth inning on an RBI double, but could draw no closer as UMass Lowell came away with the 3-1 victory.

Marielle Handley picked up the win for the River Hawks. Handley pitched seven innings and allowed just one run (0 earned) on four hits while striking out three.

Megan Ruonavaara took the loss for the Skyhawks. The right hander tossed six innings and allowed three runs on five hits.

Freshman Anna Crowley (Eastchester, N.Y.) came up with a clutch at-bat in the bottom of the seventh inning to deliver a walk-off victory for UMass Lowell in game two of Wednesday's double-header with Stonehill.

With the win, UMass Lowell improved to 14-17 overall and 6-2 in the Northeast Division of the Northeast-10 Conference.

The loss moved Stonehill to 18-18 overall on the season and 5-4 in conference play.

The River Hawks fell behind in the fourth inning when Nicole Eisenmann launched a two-run homer over the fence in deep right-center field.
Stonehill would add two more in the fifth inning to take a 4-1 lead over UMass Lowell.
However, in the sixth innings, the River Hawks scored on a sac fly by senior Brianna Mahoney (Billerica, Mass.) and again on an RBI single by sophomore Melissa King (Stamford, Conn.) to set the table for the bottom of the seventh.
With just one out and the bases loaded, Crowly ripped a groundball to second base. The Stonehill infielder gloved the shot, but her toss to first sailed high, allowing the tying and winning runs to score for UMass Lowell.
Marielle Handley picked up another win for UMass Lowell. Handley pitched six and two thirds innings, allowing four runs on seven hits.
Nicole Eisenmann took the loss for Stonehill. She allowed two runs on four hits in just two thirds of an inning.
