Varsity Fours Third in Clark/Bowdoin Tri-Meet

The UMass Lowell varsity four placed third among five boats to highlight its first action of the spring in a tri-meet against Clark University and Bowdoin College Saturday on the Quinsigamond River.

UMass Lowell posted a time of 7:39.4 to place behind Bowdoin's varsity four, which won the race in 7:08.1, while the Bowdoin varsity 'B' team placed second in 7:34.1.

Leading UMass Lowell's fours were junior coxswain Rachel Paquette (Dracut, Mass.), sophomores Rachel Piela (Amherst, Mass.) and Jenna Bueno (Methuen, Mass.); and seniors Kim Haskins (Taunton, Mass.) and Melinda Neale (Plaistow, N.H.).

The aforementioned were also members of UMass Lowell's varsity eight boat, which finished third in 7:40.9 behind Bowdoin (7:02.5) and Clark (7:24.2). Also among UMass Lowell's eight were sophomore Brianna Trainor (Pelham, N.H.), freshman Julia Jennings (Lowell, Mass.) and juniors Bridget Mahoney (Dracut, Mass.) and Megan McLaughlin (Haverhill, Mass.).

UMass Lowell meets Merrimack next Saturday in Lawrence, Mass.
