Connor Hellebuyck (Commerce, Mich.) was honored with Hockey East Athletic Republic Player of the week, while junior
Chad Ruhwedel (San Diego, Calif.) was named Hockey East Defensive Player of the Week, the league announced Monday afternoon.
UMass Lowell was also named the Hockey East Team of the Week for the eighth time this season and fourth time in five weeks as it captured the Hockey East Tournament Championship for the first time ever with a 2-1 victory over Providence in the semifinal and a 1-0 triumph over Boston University.
UMass Lowell was named the No. 1 seed of the NCAA Division I Ice Hockey Tournament Northeast Regional and will meet No. 4 Wisconsin Friday at 4:30 at the Verizon Wireless Arena in Manchester, N.H. With a win, UMass Lowell will face the winner between No. 2 New Hampshire and No. 3 Denver Saturday at 6:30 p.m. (televised on ESPNU).
The honor marked the fifth straight week Hellebuyck has received a weekly honor as he was named the Co-Rookie of the Week on Feb. 25, the Rookie of the Week on Mar. 4, the Co-Defensive Player of the Week Mar. 11 and Rookie of the Week once again last week.
Hellebuyck stopped 70 of 71 shots on target and backstopped the No. 1-seeded River Hawks to 2-1 win over Providence and 1-0 victory over Boston University to clinch the Hockey East Tournament Title. He was named Most Valuable Player. Ruhwedel had an assist on junior

(Foxboro, Mass.) game winning goal and was named to the All-Tournament Team.
Last week, Hellebuyck was named the Hockey East Stop it Goaltending Champion and to the 2013 Pro Ambitions All-Rookie Team, while Ruhwedel was a Hockey East First Teams All-Conference selection.
