Pat Parker (Merrimack, NH) started the scoring with an RBI single in the third inning and UMass Lowell went on to plate seven more in an 8-3 victory over American International College in Lantana Fla. on Friday afternoon.
The win brought UMass Lowell to 11-5 overall. The River Hawks will play AIC twice more tomorrow (12:00, 3:00).
AIC fell to 5-4 on the season.
Senior
Taylor Robinson (Haverhill, Mass.) got the start for the River Hawks and pitched well through five and a third innings. The righty allowed two runs on six hits and struck out three in the victory.
UMass Lowell held a 5-0 lead to begin the bottom of the fifth inning, but broke the game open after four hits plated three runs to increase the lead to 8-0. Sophomore
Matt Sanchez (Sunrise, Fla.) landed the biggest blow when his two-out single plated two River Hawks.
Sanchez finished the afternoon with two hits, two RBI and a run scored.
AIC got on the board in the sixth when a double from freshman Zach Kane scored two for the Yellow Jackets, narrowing the lead to 8-2.
However, UMass Lowell got some solid relief from senior
Mike Sloban (Merrimac, Mass.) and junior
Mike Calzetta (Lawrence, Mass.) to seal the victory.
Sloban tossed two and two thirds innings and allowed one run on two hits while striking out two.
Calzetta tossed the final frame for the River Hawks and did not allow a hit.
Robinson got the win for UMass Lowell.
AIC's Daniel Guerrero took the loss as he allowed five runs on seven hits through four and a third innings.
