Hellebuyck Repeats as Hockey East/Pro Ambitions Rookie of the Week

Connor Hellebuyck, a freshman from Commerce, Mich., was named the Hockey East/Pro Ambitions Co-Rookie of the Week after leading UMass Lowell to a 4-1 victory at Providence and winning the Hockey East regular season title Saturday night at the Schneider Arena.
 
The honor marked the seventh time Hellebuyck was recognized this season. He has been named or shared Rookie of the Week honors five times and Defensive Player of the Week twice.

UMass Lowell, which finished the regular season with a 22-10-2 overall record and a 16-9-2 clip in Hockey East, was also named the Hockey East Team of the Week for the seventh time this season and third week in a row. The River Hawks are the first team other than Boston College, Boston University, New Hampshire or Maine to capture the Hockey East regular season championship.
 
UMass Lowell, seeded No. 1, hosts No. 8 Maine Thursday (7:00), Friday (7:00) and Sunday (4:00, if necessary). Tickets are available at the Tsongas Center box office: $18 for adults and $14 for seniors (65+) and children (12 and under). UMass Lowell students receive free admission by scanning their ID, Paid for by the Division of Student Affairs.

Hellebuyck stopped 55 of 59 shots on the weekend. In Friday night's 3-0 setback at the Tsongas Center, Hellebuyck saved 23 shots. On Saturday, he followed with 32 saves in the 4-1 victory, including 12 saves in the third period.

For the season, Hellebuyck is 14-2-0 with a .945 save percentage, a 1.49 goals against average and four shutouts. He ranks second among Division I leaders in both save percentage and goals against average; and fourth in shutouts. 

UMass Lowell is currently No. 6 in the latest U.S. College Hockey Online poll and the USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine poll.
 
A fifth-round draft pick by the Winnipeg Jets (130th overall), Hellebuyck is majoring in marketing. He is the son of Chuck and Erin Hellebuyck of Commerce, Mich.
