Box Score
Freshman G Connor Hellebuyck (Commerce, Mich.) stopped 25 shots en route to his third shutout of the season as No. 12/12 UMass Lowell defeated No. 13/15 Boston University, 3-0, Friday night in a Hockey East clash in front of 4,757 at the Agannis Arena.

The win was UMass Lowell's third straight as it improved to 17-9-2 overall and 11-8-2 in Hockey East entering Saturday night's rematch with the Terrier at the Tsongas Center (7:00).

Boston University slipped to 14-13-2 overall and 11-8-2 in Hockey East.

The shutout pits Hellebuyck tied for ninth on UMass Lowell's career list. Hellebuyck is currently 9-0-0 in his last 10 appearances.

Junior F Joe Pendenza (Wilmington, Mass.) scored one goal and assisted on another. Junior F Josh Holmstrom (Colorado Springs, Colo.), who assisted on Pendenza's goal, made his 100th appearance for the River Hawks, as did junior F Derek Arnold (Foxboro, Mass.).

“Tonight was a team shutout. We didn't give away many opportunities,” said head coach Norm Bazin. “You have to be pleased when you get any points on the road, but when it's a win, it's even better.

“BU has so many dynamic forwards,” Bazin added. “I just wanted us to have a strong backcheck. I thought our penalty kill was very strong.”

UMass Lowell extinguished all three Terrier power plays.

Following a scoreless first period, UMass Lowell broke the drought with a pair of goals 2:04 apart in the second period, the result of a good spell of pressure from the opening faceoff.

Sophomore F Scott Wilson (Oakville, Ont.) scored his ninth of the season at 5:35 when he broke free down the right side and uncorked a shot from inside the circle over the right should of BU goalkeeper Matt O'Connor.

Pendenza doubled the lead at 7:39 when his slapshot from the left circle deflected in off a BU defenseman.

Four minutes later, Arnold nearly scored his seventh in the last eight games when he went one-on-one with O'Connor, but the freshman goalie read his backhand well and snuffed wide right.

The third goal would come, however, at 14:55 into the third period near the end of a power play. O'Connor stopped a shot from Pendenza to the right of the goal, but senior F Riley Wetmore (Swanton, Vt.) tucked in the rebound which trickled in beneath O'Connor.

UMass Lowell outshot BU, 27-25. O'Connor stopped 24 shots for the Terriers.
