SOUTH ORANGE, NJ (Dec. 7, 2013) – UMass Lowell suffered a 97-68 loss to Seton Hall at Walsh Gymnasium in South Orange, NJ. Saturday afternoon.

Junior Shannon Samuels (Windsor, Conn.) led the River Hawks with 18 points, four rebounds and four assists. Sophomore Lindsey Doucette (Hopkinton, Mass.) had 15 points, nine rebounds and team-high five steals.

The River Hawks once again came out of the gate with a slow start. However, trailing 33-15 with 9:03 remaining in the first half UMass Lowell went on an 11-0 run to cut it nine at 35-26 at the 7:26 mark. That would be the closest that the River Hawks would get as the Pirates closed out the half with a 21-11 advantage and led 56-37 at half.

Seton Hall shot 59.5% (22-37) in the first half and 50.7% (37-73) for the game, while the River Hawks struggled shooting just 27.1% (23-85) from the floor. UMass Lowell once again looked good from the free throw line shooting 93.8% (15-16), the Pirates shoot just 70.8% (17-24).

The Pirates were led by sophomore Tabatha Richardson-Smith double-double, 27 points and 12 rebounds. Seton Hall's junior Chizoba Ekedigwe scored 18 points and junior Ka-Deidre Simmons had 15 points and 12 assists.

UMass Lowell forced 33 turnovers compared to committing just 22.

The Pirates had the advantage on the boards, out rebounding UMass Lowell 66-37.

Seton Hall improved to 7-1 and the River Hawks fell to 0-9 and 0-1 in America East.

UMass Lowell plays its seventh of nine straight road games on Tuesday at Rhode Island at 7:00 p.m. and Seton Hall travels west to play at Illinois on Monday night at 8:00 p.m.
