BURLINGTON, VT (Dec. 1, 2013) – UMass Lowell falls 95-82 to Vermont in first ever America East conference game in Burlington, VT at the Patrick Gym Sunday afternoon.
Vermont junior Niki Taylor led all scorers with 23 points and junior Kayla Burchill knocked down 20 points.
The River Hawks trailed 47-38 at halftime but the Catamounts managed to gradually pull away in the second half stretching the lead to 30 points, 81-51, with 7:27 remaining. UMass Lowell kept chipping away but it wasn't enough.
The River Hawks junior 
Shannon Samuels (Windsor, Conn.) led the River Hawks with 18 points. Freshman 
Nicole Hayner (Bedford, N.H.) had a career-high 16 points including 4-8 from downtown. 
Kenya Stewart (Hartford, Conn.) had five rebounds to lead the River Hawks.
Sophomore 
Lindsey Doucette (Hopkinton, Mass.) had nine points, three blocks and three steals.
Catamounts dominated both ends of the boards with a 62-28 margin, 19-12 on the offensive side and 43-16 on the defensive end.
UMass Lowell full court press forced Vermont into 39 turnovers compared to just 21. The River Hawks had 25 steals lead by 
Brittany Lomanno (Billerica, Mass.) and
 Priscilla Dunphy (Barrington, R.I) each with four.
The Catamounts improved to 3-3, 1-0 AE and UMass Lowell falls to 0-7, 0-1 AE. Vermont will play Central Connecticut next Sunday at 2:00 and the River Hawks will play Wednesday at Old Dominion at 11:00 a.m.
