LOWELL (Nov. 9, 2013) – Junior F Alexis Harris scored 31 points while junior G Tori Rule scored 23 as Providence College defeated UMass Lowell, 109-74, Saturday afternoon in the River Hawks NCAA Division I debut at the Costello Athletic Center.

The River Hawks and Friars combined for 183 points, just eight points off the America East record of 191. Maine defeated UNH 101-90 on January 11, 1997.
Harris converted 13 of 15 field goals (.867) and 5 of 7 free throws and also grabbed seven rebounds and dished out four assists. Rule shot 9-19 and had five assists and four rebounds.
Freshman G Sarah Beal scored 20 points, hitting 7 of 9 field goals and 6 of 6 free throws while sophomore F Evi Iiskola chipped in 19 points and eight rebounds while converting 8 of 9 free throws.

Lindsey Doucette (Hopkinton, Mass.) and senior captain
Lauren Fiola (Fall River, Mass.) each grabbed 10 rebounds to lead UMass Lowell. The Friars senior Danielle Pearson had a game-high 15 rebounds to lead all players.
Providence collectively shot .474 for the game, hitting 38 of 77 field goal attempts while UMass Lowell struggled to a .284 clip (25-88). The Friars also outscored UMass Lowell 32-14 from the free throw line and posted a 68-43 advantage on the glass (22-17 offensively).
UMass Lowell visits Yale Tuesday night at 7:00. Providence hosts Bryant Tuesday at 7:00.
