Monster Bash Raises Funds for American Heart Society

3rd Annual SAAC Event Held In Memory of Adam Keenan

The annual SAAC Monster Bash is held in memory of UMass Lowell Baseball Player Adam Keenan

SAAC held it's annual Monster Bash on October 30 from 8:30 - 11:30 PM. The 3rd annual event, held in memory of UMass Lowell baseball player Adam Keenan, raised more than $650 for the American Heart Association. Adam died suddenly from a congenital heart condition in June, 2011 while playing summer baseball.

The annual Halloween party is hosted by SAAC for the campus and features a live DJ, games, contests and entertainment. The first annual Monster Bash was held in 2011, shortly after Keenan's death. The event was inspired by junior Kristina Wiltjer, the then volleyball team representative on UMass Lowell Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), who proposed the idea.

The funds raised raised through the annual event are donated to "Adam's Team," a group organized by Keenan's parents each year to support the American Heart Association's Heart Walk in Boston. Keenan, 20, died following his sophomore season with the River Hawks due to Arrhythmogenic Right Ventricular Cardiomyopathy (ARVC). Following his death, the university rallied to support his family and honor his memory, including supporting a scholarship in his honor.
