River Hawks Fall at #10 Nebraska

LINCOLN, NE (Nov. 26, 2013) – The Huskers jumped out to 34-2 start and cruised to a 77-42 victory, Wednesday night at Pinnacle Bank Arena in front of 5,019 fans in Lincoln, NE.

The River Hawks out rebounded the #10 team in the country, Nebraska, by a 27-24 margin in the first half including, 11-3, on the offensive boards lead by Stewarts' eight. Freshman Kenya Stewart (Hartford, Conn.) led all players with game-high 11 boards to go along with her four points. Sophomore Lindsey Doucette (Hopkinton, Mass.) had 10 rebounds.

Junior Shannon Samuels (Windsor, Conn.) led the River Hawks with 16 points. Sophomore Melissa Frase (Tamworth, N.H.) had eight points.

Nebraska Jordan Hooper had a game-high 25 points and 10 rebounds, while Emily Cady scored 14 points.

The Huskies improved to 6-0 and UMass Lowell falls to 0-6. Nebraska will play Washington State on Saturday and the River Hawks will play its first ever America East Conference game at Vermont Sunday at 2:00 p.m.

Although UMass Lowell struggle on the floor shooting just 24.3 (17-70) they did put together a couple runs. Towards the end of the first half they had a 7-0 run with a three by freshman Rachel McCarron (Groton, Mass.) and jumper by Stewart.

In the second half UMass Lowell put together a 14-2 run. Frase scored eight points and Samuels dropped down three staright baskets during the run.

Nebraska had the overall edge in boards for the game 52-41.

The Huskers shot .439 for the game (29-66). UMass Lowell committed 17 turnovers to Nebraska's 14, and took advantage with a 25-6 advantage off turnovers. The Huskers also dominated the paint, outscoring the River Hawks 38-20.
