DURHAM, NH (November 2, 2013) – It took four periods to get it done, but the UMass Lowell River Hawks' (5-3-0, 2-0-0 Hockey East) stretched their early-season winning streak to four games with a 3-2 overtime win over the University of New Hampshire Wildcats (1-5-1, 0-2-0 Hockey East). The River Hawks kept the pressure up, peppering Casey DeSmith with 16 shots in the 2
nd period.
Joseph Pendenza (Wilmington, Mass.), the team's leading scorer, finally got one past DeSmith with a power play goal at 17:24 of the period. Just 2:18 later, defenseman

After surviving a scare in overtime with

"I saw a ton of room, and I had to take the shot," Arnold said. "I got it elevated, and it was lucky to go post and in."
Doug Carr (Hanover, Mass.) picked up his second win of the season with 27 saves while DeSmith took the loss with 21. River Hawks defenseman
Zack Kamrass finished the night with assists on all three of Lowell's goals while chipping in 5 of the team's 24 blocked shots. UMass Lowell's special teams continued to show improvement, going 2-for-3 on the power play and 4-for-5 on the penalty kill.
"It was a great weekend," said UMass Lowell Head Coach
Norm Bazin. "Whenever you can pick up points against a quality opponent like UNH, you've got to be very pleased. It wasn't a work of art, but we plugged through the first period, and I thought we got better as the game went along. Both the penalty kill and the power play were big factors this weekend."
