"We were outrebounded 26-9 in the first half," said Head Coach
Pat Duquette. "Other than that we played pretty well. We just gave them too many second chance points. I think collectively offensively, we were really good. Seventy-six points is more than enough. I thought we really made some good strides offensively.
"We were happy with the way we executed and the way we shared the ball," Duquette added. "We spread the floor well. The game was just lost on the defensive side."
UMass Lowell's first Division I home game drew an enthusiastic crowd.
"I thought this was a great turnout by our students," said Duquette. "We made a nice run in the second half and our student body was there not just to see it but provide some excitement from our guys. I think our guys really enjoyed the support they saw from our student body and the community as a whole."
UMass Lowell trailed 78-56 with 6:27 left in the second half but scored 15 straight points to cut the deficit to 78-71 with 2:29 left to play. Holley capped the run with seven straight points while Mlachnik scored four in the spurt.
