UMass Lowell women's basketball fell 92-69 to Holy Cross, Saturday afternoon in a non-conference game at the Costello Athletic Center in Lowell, Mass.
With the loss, UMass Lowell slipped to 0-3 overall while Holy Cross improved to 2-0 overall.
Holy Cross had six players in double-figures led by seniors Alex Smith 17 points and Brisje Malone's double-double of 16 points and 12 rebounds as the Crusaders shot 50% (35-70) from the floor.
The River Hawks were again led by juniors
Shannon Samuels (Windsor, Conn.) and
Jasmine McRoy (Gaithersburg, Md.). Samuels scored 15 points and grabbed four rebounds, while McRoy scored 13 points and had a team-high eight rebounds and four assists.
Freshman
Brittany Lomanno (Billerica, Mass.) had a career-high 12 points.
The River Hawks trailed by 18 points at halftime, 48-30. The Crusaders then started the second half on a 10-2 run and never looked back.
UMass Lowell struggled on the boards as the Crusaders had a 53-34 advantage.
The River Hawks will next play at St. Francis next Saturday at 2:00 p.m. and won't return home until after the New Year as they play their next nine games on the road. Holy Cross hosts Bryant next Saturday.
