UMASS LOWELL DROPS CONFERENCE MATCH AT #20 UNH

River Hawks shutout 5-0 by the Wildcats

Balance attack by the 20th ranked University of New Hampshire, 10-6 (3-0 America East) defeats UMass Lowell, 2-15 (1-3 America East) Friday night at Memorial Field in Durham, N.H.
 
The Wildcats Kellie Joyce opened up the scoring in the 10th minute from a pass from Lynne Lehman. Three minutes later, Lehman made it 2-0. UNH made it a three goal game when Hannah Richard took a shot from the far side to score her eighth goal of the season.
 
Just 15 seconds into the second half Emma Compagna gave the Wildcats a 4-0 lead. The River Hawks had a chance off a corner, when senior F Melissa Effertz (Oceanside, Calif.) was stopped by UNH goalie Carlie Tarbell. In the 54th minute Molly Heaney put home her own rebound to close out the scoring for the Wildcats.   
 
UMass Lowell Effertz and sophomore Jenna Freitas (Manchester, N.H.) both led the River Hawks with two shots on goal.
 
Senior goalkeeper Melanie Hopkins (Harwich, Mass.) finished with five saves, while Wildcat's goalie Carlie Tarbell earned the shutout and the win with four saves in net.     
 
UNH outshot UMass Lowell 18-5 overall (11-4 on target) and had a 7-4 advantage on penalty corners.
 
The River Hawks finished its first Division I season at home next Saturday Nov. 2 at 3:00 p.m.
