No. 12/15 UMass Lowell battled back from a 4-2 deficit with two goals in the third period to draw with Northeastern, 4-4, Friday night in a Hockey East clash at Matthews Arena.

The draw halted UMass Lowell's winning streak at nine games, but extended its unbeaten streak to 10 games. The River Hawks stand at 13-7-2 overall and 7-6-2 in Hockey East as the two teams close the series Saturday night at the Tsongas Center (7:05).

The River Hawks remain in sixth place by two points while Northeastern stands at 7-11-3 overall and 4-9-3 in Hockey East.

Junior D Daniel Furlong (Stoneham, Mass.) and junior F Derek Arnold (Foxboro, Mass.) each scored in the third period while senior F Riley Wetmore (Swanton, Vt.) and sophomore F Scott Wilson (Oakville, Ont.) assisted on each goal to help the River Hawks to a valuable road point.

Furlong helped UMass Lowell cut the deficit to 4-3 when freshman F A.J. White (Dearborn, Mich.) possessed off a faceoff win by Wetmore and drove down the left side, pulled back and hit Furlong, who wristed home from the point through a crowd.

UMass Lowell continued to pressure and it paid off on a power play at 15:18. Junior F Joe Pendenza (Wilmington, Mass.) flicked to Wilson, who attempted a slapshot from the right point. Arnold pounced at the rebound at the far post and shoveled home to even matters 4-4.

Sophomore G Brian Robbins (Scotrun, Pa.) stopped 14 of 15 shots after replacing junior G Doug Carr (Hanover, Mass.) at 16:52 into the second period.

Robbins showed his mettle on two occasions in the third period. Midway through, he stopped a point blank shot by McMurtry to keep UMass Lowell within a goal and rescued the River Hawks again when junior F Cody Ferriero possessed off a deflection alone in front, only for Robbins to kick wide left with roughly seven minutes to go.

UMass Lowell overcame a 1-0 deficit in the second period with goals 1:18 apart. White leveled 4:30 into the second period – his first collegiate goal – when he stole the rebound off an attempt by freshman D Christian Folin (Gothenberg, Sweden) out of the clutch of senior G Bryan Mountain and tucked home from the right of the cage.

Junior D Chad Ruhwedel (San Diego, Calif.) then scored his fifth in six games when he took a pass from sophomore Zack Kamrass (Atlanta, Ga.) at the right point and wristed past Mountain.

Northeastern, however, regained its rhythm and evened matters at 12:52 when freshman Kevin Roy wristed past Carr gloveside from the top of the right faceoff circle. Four minutes later Roy gave the Huskies a 3-2 lead when he took a cross-ice pass from freshman F Mike McMurtry and shoveled under Carr from just inside the left circle.

The Huskies' momentum carried into the third period when Ferriero rifled off a faceoff which Robbins slowed. However, senior F Steve Morra put away the rebound to give Northeastern a 4-2 cushion.

Carr stopped 14 shots while Mountain had 41 saves. UMass Lowell outshot the Huskies 45-32.
