Bianca Simmons (Middletown, Conn.) compiled 35 points, 12 rebounds and six assists as UMass Lowell defeated Adelphi University, 87-73, Tuesday night in a Northeast-10 Conference women's basketball clash at the Costello Athletic Center.
The win was the fifth straight for UMass Lowell, which improved to 10-4 overall and 7-3 in the NE-10 – currently tied for third place – entering Saturday's game at Pace (1:30 p.m.).
Adelphi slipped to 9-5 overall and 6-4 in the Conference.
Simmons output marked the fourth time in five games she scored 30 or more points. Her effort is tied for the fourth-highest single game point total in the program's history. She reached a career-high 38 points on Jan. 2 in an 84-76 double overtime win at Palm Beach Atlantic, the second-highest single game total in school history.
Simmons converted 15 of 24 field goals (.625) and also grabbed seven offensive rebounds and collected four steals.
Junior G
Danielle DePierro (Tewksbury, Mass.) added 15 points as she converted 6 of 8 field goals, including 2-4 from 3-point range.
Sophomore F Samantha Milhaven and junior G Sade Jackson each had 17 points and five rebounds as Milhaven converted 6-8 field goals and 4-6 treys. Jackson also dished out seven assists.
Sophomore G Kelly Mannix chipped in 15 points, five assists and five steals.

Lindsey Doucette (Hopkinton, Mass.), who grabbed nine rebounds, UMass Lowell outrebounded Adelphi, 58-38, overall and 23-10 offensively. The River Hawks made the most of the edge, outscoring the Panthers, 18-2 off second chances.
UMass Lowell also outscored Adelphi off turnovers, 21-11, the result of 19 from Adelphi and 16 by the River Hawks.
“This was a great team effort,” said head coach
Sarah Behn. “We did a better job on the boards, but we missed a lot of free throws, so we need to work on that. We're glad to get the 'W'.”
UMass Lowell struggled at the free throw line, hitting only 12 of 29 attempts. Adelphi shot 12-20.
UMass Lowell led 61-49 midway through the second half, but Adelphi outscored the River Hawks, 18-9, over the next six minutes to cut the deficit to 70-67 with 6:26 left to play. Freshman G Tara Flynn meshed a pair of 3-point shots while junior G Ifeanyi Ofili hit a jumper and a conventional 3-point play to spark the run.
Simmons came into action, however, with two jumpers and a layup while Doucette hit a trey to give UMass Lowell a 79-67 cushion which it would not relinquish.
UMass Lowell led at the break, 43-38.
