Box Score

Senior M Kaleigh Roberge scored a pair of goals, including the game-winner in the sixth minute of overtime, to lead Southern New Hampshire over No. 23 UMass Lowell, 2-1, Wednesday night in a Northeast-10 Conference women's soccer match at Cushing Field.

The loss was the second straight for UMass Lowell, which slipped to 1-2-1 overall and 0-2-0 in the Conference entering Saturday's clash at Adelphi (1:00).

Southern New Hampshire improved to 4-1-0 overall (2-1-0 in the NE-10) and visits No. 1 Saint Rose Saturday at 1:00.
The loss halted UMass Lowell's four-match winning streak over the Penmen, who last defeated the River Hawks on Sept. 25, 2007 (3-0).

Southern New Hampshire scored the winner when Roberge ran on to a through-ball from senior M Kasey Morrison between a pair of UMass Lowell defenders and tucked left-footed past sophomore GK Jane Hatzikonstantis (Tewksbury, Mass.) inside the right post.

The goal spoiled a gritty fight-back by UMass Lowell which battled back to level 1-1 in the 69th minute. Senior B Taylor Hartmann (Feeding Hills, Mass.) sent a free kick from the right flank inside the box, which senior M Jenna Costa (Attleboro, Mass.) touched to freshman M Selja Snorradottir (Reykjavik, Iceland) who lashed home uncontested.

The Penmen took a 1-0 lead 27 minutes into the match when Roberge took a pass over the top of the defense from freshman M Gabby Capello, beat the offsides trap and finished nicely inside the left post.

The River Hawks had a pair of chances early on to open the scoring. In the first minute, sophomore F Brittany Russo (Danvers, Mass.) broke free on the right flank and crossed to Snorradottir, whose touch was just short.

Russo nearly caught the Penmen by surprise in the 23rd when she took a pass just outside the top left side of the box, turned and fired but narrowly missed the top right corner of the goal.

Southern New Hampshire outshot UMass Lowell 11-7 overall and 5-1 on target. Hatzikonstantis had three saves for the River Hawks.
