Senior pitcher/DH Elyssa Boris (Gardner, Mass.) became UMass Lowell's career RBI leader and freshman pitcher Courtney Lanfranchi (Burlington, Mass.) earned her fifth shutout of the season as UMass Lowell defeated Saint Michael's College, 13-0 and 8-1, Tuesday afternoon in a Northeast-10 Conference softball doubleheader at Doc Jacobs Field.

With the sweep, UMass Lowell improved to 21-8 overall and 11-4 in the NE-10 entering Wednesday's non-conference twin bill at Dominican (3:00). The River Hawks return home Friday to host Pace (2:00) and Saturday to host Adelphi (12:00).

The wins were also UMass Lowell's seventh and eighth in the last nine games.

Saint Michael's fell to 3-17 overall and 1-11 in the NE-10.

In the first game, Boris batted 2 for 3 with two RBI and a run and drove in the 128th run of her career when she singled home junior 2B Krista MacKenzie (Ipswich, Mass.). Boris surpassed the previous school record of 127 career RBI set by former standout and Lowell native Laurie Tanguay (2005-08).

In the opener, Lanfranchi carried a perfect game into the fifth inning before surrendering a leadoff single to freshman C Sarah Murray and a single to sophomore SS Bethany Falls. She retired the next three batters, however, to seal the win.

The victory marked the fifth shutout of the season for Lanfranchi, who surrendered the two hits and no walks en route to her third straight win and a 9-4 record. Junior pitcher Stephanie Frank took the loss as she allowed six runs (one earned), six hits and two walks while striking out four to slip to 3-8.

UMass Lowell uncorked five runs in the third inning and six more in the fourth and never looked back. Boris got the rally started with an RBI single to right field to score freshman LF Ally Greene (Tewksbury, Mass.).

The River Hawks then added three more runs on a dropped fly ball, while senior SS Meagan Guy (Berlin, Conn.) followed with an RBI single.

Boris again ignited the rally with her milestone RBI in the fourth inning while junior CF Ashley Daniels (Medford, Mass.) added a two-run double and Guy a three-run home run to left center.

Saint Michaels opened the scoring in the nightcap when Falls singled and eventually reached home on a fielder's choice. UMass Lowell knotted the score in the fourth inning when MacKenzie doubled and reached home on an error. A solo shot by Daniels gave UMass Lowell a 2-1 lead in the fifth.

The River Hawks added two more in the sixth when senior DH Caelyn Ford (Dracut, Mass.) belted a two-run shot to centerfield. Boris highlighted a four-run seventh inning with a three-run home run to right center.

Senior C Lindsi Panarelli (Shrewsbury, Mass.) batted 3 for 3 while Daniels went 2 for 3 and freshman Ariana Darcy (Walkill, Mass.) 2 for 4 with one RBI.

Brittany Regis led Saint Michael's, hitting 3 for 4 while Falls went 2 for 3.

Boris earned the win to improve to 12-4 as she gave up seven hits and no walks while striking out two. Frank (3-9) took the loss as she allowed eight runs on eight hits and a walk while striking out two.
