Elyssa Boris (Gardner, Mass.) batted 5 for 6 with three RBI and earned her 18
th win of the year as UMass Lowell battled back to earn a split Thursday in a Northeast-10 Conference softball twin bill against Southern New Hampshire University at River View Field.
SNHU prevailed in the first game, 6-3, while UMass Lowell won the nightcap, 6-5.
With the split, the River Hawks stand at 29-10 overall and 15-6 in the NE-10 entering a critical weekend beginning Saturday at No. 18 Southern Connecticut (12:00) and Sunday at New Haven (12:00).
The Penmen are currently 20-12 overall and 10-6 in the Conference.
Boris improved to 19-4 this season in the second game, which was halted in the middle of the sixth inning due to darkness. Boris allowed five hits, three earned runs and six walks and batted 2 for 2 with two RBI, one run and a walk.
UMass Lowell led the nightcap, 6-2, entering the sixth inning, but SNHU rallied for three runs to remain close. Sophomore RF Tesia Stanasek reached home on a fielder's choice while sophomore 1B Cara Daly and junior LF Cristy Jenkins later scored on a throwing error.
Junior SS Kate Stanley then flied out to right field to end the inning, and subsequently, the game.
UMass Lowell opened the scoring with two-runs in the first inning and a three-run third. Freshman RF
Ariana Darcy (Walkill, N.Y.) scored on a throwing error and Boris hit an RBI double to left field to highlight the first.
Boris ignited the third inning rally with an RBI triple, which caromed off the top of the fence, while Ferraro added with a solo home run.

Caelyn Ford (Dracut, Mass.) drew a walk with the bases loaded.
Stanasek led SNHU, batting 2 for 3 with one run and one RBI while sophomore 3B Meghan Farmer went 1 for 2 with a solo home run in the second inning. Sophomore pitcher Dolores Mattice (7-5) took the loss, scattering six hits, six earned runs and six walks while striking out two.
In the opener, UMass Lowell jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the third inning when senior SS
Meagan Guy (Berlin, Conn.) walked and Darcy followed with a two-run shot to left center.

Ally Greene (Tewksbury, Mass.) then reached on an error and scored when Boris doubled to right field.
The lead was short-lived, however, as Southern New Hampshire rallied for five runs in the fourth inning. The Penmen loaded the bases with their first three batters while senior CF Amanda Barton scored on a fielder's choice to score Stanasek.
Freshman pitcher Ali Maloof followed with an RBI single and Stanley followed with a three-run shot to left field. SNHU added one more in the seventh – a solo home run by sophomore 1B Cara Daly.
Stanasek batted 3 for 4 to lead SNHU while Stanley went 2 for 4 with three RBI. Boris hit 3 for 4 to lead UMass Lowell.
Freshman pitcher
Courtney Lanfranchi (Burlington, Mass.) took the loss to slip to 11-6. Lanfranchi allowed 13 hits, six runs and two walks. Maloof (9-7) earned the win for SNHU as she scattered five hits, two earned runs and four walks while striking out six.
