Cam Kneeland (Rowley, Mass.) showcased his arm and his bat on Wednesday night, leading UMass Lowell baseball over Merrimack, 7-2, at LeLacheur Park. Kneeland struck out seven batters in six innings on the mound, while batting 2-for-4 with two runs, two stolen bases and an RBI.
The victory boosted the River Hawks to an 18-11-1 overall record, 8-5-1 mark in the Northeast-10 and a 3-3 record in the Northeast Division. The Warriors dropped to 14-17 overall, 3-6 in the NE-10 and 1-5 in the Northeast Division.

James Katsiourbas (Milton, Mass.) put UMass Lowell on the board in the first, hooking a soft single into left field that brought freshman
Geoff DeGroot (Wesley Chapel, Fla.) home from second base.
On the mound, Kneeland set down the first eight batters in order before finally surrendering a hit. The righty struck out four of the game's first six hitters.
At the plate the River Hawks expanded the lead to 5-0 in the third. Senior
Matt Jacobs (Hudson, Mass.) started the surge with an RBI single into right field, scoring rookie
Jacob O'Keefe (Wellington, Fla.). Katsiroubas then came through again, hitting an RBI single up the middle, followed by a two-run double down the left field line from junior
Pat Devlin (Tewksbury, Mass.).
The Warriors answered back with two runs in the fourth, scoring on an RBI double by Casey Cotter (North Hampton, N.H.) and a single by Joe Mantoni (Northbridge, Mass.).
UMass Lowell added to the scoreboard in the fifth and eighth innings, with an RBI single to left by Kneeland and a sacrifice fly by Devlin to push the lead to 7-2.
A combination of relievers
Bryant Guilmette (Hopkinton, Mass.) and
Mike Sloban (Merrimac, Mass.) shut the door. Guilmette threw two innings and allowed just one hit, while Sloban pitched a hitless ninth.
Kneeland (4-2) earned the win on the mound with six innings of work. He allowed five hits, two runs and struck out seven.
For the game, Devlin led the way with a 1-for-3 showing at the plate and three RBI. Kneeland also shined, batting 2-for-3 with an RBI, two runs scored and two stolen bases.
Up next the River Hawks head to Saint Anselm for a trio of games. UMass Lowell plays in a Saturday double-header at 12 p.m., then has the series finale on Sunday at 1 p.m.
