UMass Lowell hockey sophomore
Doug Carr (Hanover, Mass.) was named the Hockey East Goaltender of the Month for March, as announced by the conference office on Thursday afternoon. Carr posted a 3-3-0 record with a .932 save percentage and 2.27 goals against average.
Carr made at least 30 saves in five of his six starts, including a pair of one goal games against Providence College on Mar. 2 and 11.
His brightest moment came on the nation's biggest stage as he held the then seventh-ranked Miami University RedHawks to three goals on 33 shots in a thrilling 4-3 overtime victory in the NCAA Tournament East Regional. The win was the program's first in the NCAA Tournament in 16 years.
For the season, Carr finished with a 22-10-1 record, .928 save percentage and 2.13 goals against average. He ranks fifth in the NCAA in winning percentage (.682), 10
th in shutouts (4), 10
th in save percentage and 11
th in goals against average.
Carr has been recognized by several times already this year, earning a spot on the Hockey East All-Star Second Team. He was also named the runner-up for Hockey East Player of the Year Award and crowned the New England Hockey Writers Most Improved Player.
The honor is UMass Lowell's 16
th weekly or monthly award from Hockey East this season. Carr has been named the Goaltender of the Month three times (November, January, March) and was named the Defensive Player of the Week once (Feb. 14).
