Lindsi Panarelli (Shrewsbury, Mass.) batted 4 for 6 with six RBI while freshman pitcher
Courtney Lanfranchi (Burlington, Mass.) earned her fourth shutout of the season to lead UMass Lowell over Bentley, 11-0 and 7-1, Wednesday in a Northeast-10 Conference doubleheader at River View Field.
With the sweep, UMass Lowell improved to 15-7 overall and 5-3 in the NE-10 entering Thursday's twin bill at Merrimack (3:00). Bentley slipped to 3-13 overall and 1-8 in the Conference and visits Adelphi Saturday (12:00).
In the opener, UMass Lowell erupted for six runs in the third inning, led by an RBI double by junior 2B
Krista MacKenzie (Ipswich, Mass.) and a two-run double by sophomore 3B
Ali Ferraro (Kingston, N.Y).
Bentley threatened in the sixth inning when freshman SS Shannon Connor singled and sophomore 1B Samantha Tierney followed with a double with one out, but Lanfranchi struck out the next two batters to preserve the shutout.
The River Hawks ended the game in the bottom of the sixth when Panarelli hit a grand slam to left field.
Lanfranchi, who improved to 5-3, allowed six hits and a walk while striking out six. Junior P Carly Taitz took the loss for Bentley as she scattered 14 hits and no walks while striking out one to slip to 2-8.
Panarelli led the River Hawks as she batted 2 for 3 with the aforementioned grand slam and three runs while Ferraro went 2 for 3 with three RBI and a run. Freshman RF
Ariana Darcy (Walkill, N.Y.) went 3 for 4 with a run while MacKenzie hit 2 for 4 with two runs.
Connor and Tierney led the Falcons, each hitting 2 for 3.
In the nightcap, Panarelli hit a solo shot in the second inning and MacKenzie added a two-run double in the third inning as UMass Lowell never looked back en route to the win.
Bentley threatened in the sixth inning, however, when sophomore CF Jackie Gauthier drew a walk and advanced to third on a single by freshman DP Alyssa Wagner with none out.
However, Darcy caught a fly ball in right field and threw out Gauthier attempting to reach home. Panarelli then caught Wagner attempting to steal second to end the inning.
The River Hawks added four more runs in the sixth behind RBI doubles from Panarelli and Ferraro and a two-run shot from junior CF
Ashley Daniels (Medford, Mass.) to build its lead to 7-0.
The Falcons pulled one back in the seventh when Connor doubled, reached third on an error and scored when Tierney singled to centerfield.
Panarelli and Daniels each led UML's offense, hitting 2 for 3 with two RBI while MacKenzie drove in two runs while hitting 1 for 3.
Gauthier led Bentley, hitting 1 for 2 with a single and walk.

Elyssa Boris (Gardner, Mass.) earned the win and improved to 10-4 as she allowed six hits, one walk and an earned run while striking out six. Freshman P Caitlin Betz (1-5) surrendered eight hits, five earned runs and no walks while striking out four.
