MacKenzie, Boris Lead River Hawks Over Limestone, 2-1

MacKenzie goes 3-4, Boris improves to 7-1

Senior Elyssa Boris: Improved to 7-1
Box Score Junior 2B Krista MacKenzie (Ipswich, Mass.) batted 3 for 4 with one run and one RBI while senior pitcher Elyssa Boris (Gardner, Mass.) improved to 7-1 as UMass Lowell held off Limestone College, 2-1, Tuesday morning in a non-conference softball clash.

With the win, UMass Lowell improved to 9-3 overall and meets East Region foe Molloy Wednesday in a doubleheader beginning at 9:00 a.m.

UMass Lowell opened the scoring in the third inning when junior CF Ashley Daniels (Medford, Mass.) led off with a triple to centerfield and scored when MacKenzie singled to centerfield.

The River Hawks doubled their lead in the fifth inning when MacKenzie led off with a single to rightfield and advanced to second on an error. Freshman LF Ally Greene (Tewksbury, Mass.) followed with a single to center to score MacKenzie.

Limestone pulled a run back in the seventh inning when senior LF Malory Kuykendall reached on an error, advanced to third on a single by junior C Alex Brown and scored on a sacrifice fly by junior 1B Kirstyn Burleson.

Brown's single gave the Saints runners on first and second with one out, but Boris retired the next two batters to preserve the win.

Boris allowed six hits, no walks and no earned runs while striking out four en route to her seventh win of the season. Junior P Leah Quant scattered eight hits, one earned run and no walks while striking out nine to slip to 6-6.
