Ferraro, Boris Gem Lift UMass Lowell Over Lock Haven, 6-1

Boris improves to 4-0, cracks third home run of the season

Box Score Sophomore 3B Ali Ferraro (Kingston, N.Y.) batted 2 for 4 with one run and one RBI while senior P Elyssa Boris (Gardner, Mass.) improved to 4-0 as the UMass Lowell softball team opened its spring break trip with a 6-1 victory over Lock Haven University Friday afternoon in Clermont, Fla.

With the win, UMass Lowell improved to 5-1 and meets Millersville (12:30) and Kutztown (2:30) Saturday. Lock Haven slipped to 3-3 and meets Georgian Court (8:30) and Winona State (12:30) Saturday.

UMass Lowell amassed 11 hits while Boris, senior SS Meagan Guy (Berlin, Conn.) and sophomore CF Ashley Daniels (Medford, Mass.) each hit home runs.

Boris scattered three hits, three walks and an unearned run while striking out one to improve to 4-0. She also batted 1 for 4 with a solo home run, her third this season.

Guy batted 2 for 3 with a solo shot while freshman Ariana Darcy (Walkill, N.Y.) hit 2 for 4 with a triple and one run.

Freshman LF Ally Greene (Tewksbury, Mass.) went 1 for 2 with two walks and two stolen bases.

Junior C Alicia Cacciotti led Lock Haven, batting 2 for 3 (triples) while senior Erin Clary went 1 for 3 with an RBI triple.

UMass Lowell broke a 1-1 tie with four runs in the sixth inning and never looked back. With two out, senior DH Caelyn Ford (Dracut, Mass.) singled, advanced to second on an error and scored when Ferraro cracked a single to left field.

Daniels and Guy then hit back-to-back home runs for a 5-1 cushion.

UMass Lowell added an insurance run in the seventh when Boris homered to left field.
