MIAMI SHORES, Fla. (Dec. 30, 2012) – Junior G Tyler Hardy scored 21 points and grabbed 14 rebounds to lead Barry University over UMass Lowell, 80-71, Sunday afternoon in a non-conference women's basketball clash In Miami Shores, Fla.
With the loss, UMass Lowell slipped to 5-4 overall and visits Palm Beach Atlantic University Wednesday at 1:00. Barry improved to 7-2.
The loss spoiled another stellar effort by senior G
Bianca Simmons (Middletown, Conn.) who compiled 20 points, nine assists, seven rebounds and four steals. Junior G
Danielle DePierro (Tewksbury, Mass.) added 12 points.
Hardy converted 6 of 12 field goal attempts and 8 of 10 free throws while junior G Colette Eule chipped in 20 points and eight rebounds. Sophomore G Jackie Perez chipped in 16 points, six rebounds and six assists.
Barry outscored UMass Lowell, 34-10 from the free throw line as it converted 34-45 attempts to the River Hawks' 10-15. The advantage buffered UMass Lowell's 30-10 edge off the bench, led by eight points from freshman G

The River Hawks outscored Barry in the second half (38-37) but couldn't manage to cut the 42-32 halftime deficit. The River Hawks started the second half with five straight points on a DePierro three and layup by freshmen F
Sarah Illingworth (White River Junction, Vt.) to cut the deficit to 42-37.
Barry answered again and eventually stretched the lead to 15 points (60-45) with 9:31 left. The River Hawks would chip away again an eventual cut it to three points (69-66) on a three point play by Simmons off a steal with 3:51 to go.
The Buccaneers answered with a 9-0 run to dash any UMass Lowell comeback behind a trey from Eule and three free throws by Perez.
