Bianca Simmons (Middletown, Conn.) compiled 25 points, 16 rebounds, six assists and five steals to lead UMass Lowell over Merrimack College, 80-67, Saturday afternoon in a Northeast-10 Conference women's basketball clash at the Costello Athletic Center.
With the win, UMass Lowell improved to 4-2 overall and 2-2 in the NE-10 entering Tuesday's game at Saint Anselm (5:30). Merrimack slipped to 4-2 and 2-2 and hosts Saint Michael's Tuesday (5:30).
Simmons rebound total – which included eight on the offensive glass – marked a career-high while sophomore F
Demetria Bell (Braintree, Mass.) added a season-high 16 points while shooting 7 for 12 from the floor.
Freshman
Melissa Frase (Tamworth, N.H.) chipped in 10 points and three assists and scored six of her points in a key run early in the second half.
Freshman G Ashley Weissmann led three Merrimack teammates in double digits with 13 points and four rebounds off the bench while freshman G Chloe Rothman scored 12 points and dished out seven assists.
Junior forwards Kelly Schatzlein and Shelby Secor each chipped in 10 points and 11 rebounds, including six each on the offensive glass.

Lindsey Doucette (Hopkinton, Mass.), who added nine points and six rebounds, UMass Lowell outscored the Warriors, 28-18 in the paint.
The River Hawks shot .414 from the field (29-70) and meshed .300 of their 3-point attempts (9-30) while Merrimack struggled to a .292 clip overall (19-65) and .250 from long range (6-24). The advantage buffered Merrimack's free throw edge as they outscored UMass Lowell, 23-13.
