Bentley University scored two first half goals and weathered a second half flurry as it defeated No. 4 UMass Lowell, 2-0, Thursday night in a Northeast-10 Conference field hockey clash in Waltham, Mass.
The loss halted a nine-match winning streak for UMass Lowell, which slipped to 10-2 overall and 5-1 in the NE-10 entering Saturday's home match against Franklin Pierce (1:00).
The win stopped a two-match slide for Bentley, which improved to 5-6 overall and 2-2 in the Conference.
UMass Lowell outshot the Falcons 19-7 overall and 8-6 on target, including 15-0 in the second half (6-0 on frame, five blocked by defenders). The River Hawks also had an 11-3 edge on penalty corners.

Melanie Hopkins (Harwich, Mass.) stopped senior F Nicole Dion's attempt, but senior F Beth Maguire was there for the rebound.
Nearly seven minutes later, freshman M Meghan Talerman drove deep into the UMass Lowell zone and beat Hopkins from five yards out.
Senior GK Julia Powell had eight saves for her third shutout of the year while Hopkins stopped six shots for UMass Lowell.
