UMass Lowell Empty in 6-0 Loss at No. 16 American International

Junior F Mariah Shade three goals and assisted on another as No. 16 American International College defeated UMass Lowell, 6-0, Saturday afternoon in a Northeast-10 Conference women's soccer clash at Ronald J. Abdow Field.

With the loss, UMass Lowell slipped to 4-7-2 overall and 3-7-1 in the NE-10 entering Tuesday's match at Franklin Pierce (4:00).

The Yellow Jackets improved to 9-2-2 overall and 8-1-2 in the Conference and with their six shutout in their last seven games.

Shade opened the scoring in the eighth minute as she was sent in on a breakaway off a through-ball from senior M Sarah Tomlinson.

Shade scored her second in the 16th minute as she dribbled in from the left side and steered her attempt inside the far post.

The Yellow Jackets put the match out of reach in the opening minutes of the second half. In the 49th minute, junior F Allie Fitzsimmons brought the ball left of the goal towards the end line and chipped over the grasp of sophomore GK Jane Hatzikonstantis (Tewksbury, Mass.).

Freshman M Miemi Tomochika then one-timed a cross from Shade from the right side of the box inside the far post in the 51st for a 4-0 cushion.

Shade completed the hat trick in the 57th as she took a feed from senior M Bonnie Boornazian and beat two defenders before firing home. Freshman F Alyssa Werbicki capped the scoring when her shot from 20 yards out carried over the reach of Hatzikonstantis in the 84th.

AIC outshot UMass Lowell, 25-4 overall and 15-2 on frame.  Hatzikonstantis stopped eight shots while sophomore GK Samantha Tabak was tested twice.
