UMass Lowell baseball aims for a repeat performance as it rematches Bentley University at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday at DeFelice Field. The River Hawks pulled out a late 4-3 victory against the Falcons at LeLacheur Park on Wednesday.
UMass Lowell enters the contest a winner in 14 of its last 15 games, riding an overall record of 14-2 and 1-0 in Northeast-10 action. Bentley has dropped four of its last five contests, carrying a 6-10 mark into Thursday and sits at 0-1 in conference play.
Yesterday, reigning NE-10 Rookie of the Week Dylan Flynn (Upton, Mass.) delivered an eventual game-winning RBI single in the eighth to put the River Hawks ahead, 4-3.
In addition to Flynn, James Katsiroubas (Milton, Mass.) and Cam Kneeland (Rowley, Mass.) shined at the plate. Katsiroubas collected two hits, an RBI and a run scored while Kneeland finished 2-for-4 with two runs.
Freshman Mike Calzetta (Lawrence, Mass.) gave UMass Lowell a solid effort on the mound, pitching seven innings and allowing three runs. The right handed freshman struck out five and walked one before handing the ball to Taylor Robinson (Haverhill, Mass.). Benefiting from the Flynn RBI, Robinson picked up the victory to improve to 3-0 after tossing a scoreless eighth. Closer Dallas Nunes (Easton, Mass.) pitched a quick ninth to earn his third save of the season.
For the season, Katsiroubas is batting a team-best .369 with a .523 slugging percentage. The third baseman has scored 16 runs, totaled 14 RBI and is a perfect 11-for-11 in stolen base attempts.
After today's contest, the River Hawks will catch their breath on Friday before hosting New Haven on Saturday for a double-header at LeLacheur Park scheduled for 12 p.m.
