Hockey East Weekly Release in PDF Format
For the second time this season, freshman forward Terrence Wallin (Yardley, Pa.) was named the Hockey East Rookie of the Week on Monday afternoon. He netted a goal and two assists with a plus-3 rating in the 18-ranked River Hawks' home-and-home sweep of New Hampshire.
On Friday, Wallin scored off of a deflection by Matt Ferreira (Brampton, Ont.) to recapture a one-goal lead in the first period over New Hampshire in front of a record crowd of 6,826 in the Tsongas Center.
The rookie followed with a pair of assists on Saturday, including setting up Ferreira's game-winner to defeat the Wildcats in the Whittemore Center for the first time since 2003.
For the year, Wallin has scored three goals and seven assists, ranking second among UMass Lowell freshmen with 10 points. He leads all River Hawks with a plus-8 rating on the year.
UMass Lowell has now been honored six times by Hockey East this season. Scott Wilson (Oakville, Ont.) and Wallin have each been named the Rookie of the Week twice, while the River Hawks were named the Team of the Week on Nov. 14. Goaltender Doug Carr (Hanover, Mass.) was crowned November's Goaltender of the Month on Dec. 1.
Following the four-point weekend, UMass Lowell (9-4-0, 6-3-0 HE) made its debut in the national rankings (#18) for the first time since Mar. 8, 2010. Coming up next, the River Hawks have a split weekend as they host #3 Boston College on Friday night in the Tsongas Center, then visit Northeastern on Saturday.
