Winners of five straight, #18 UMass Lowell (10-4-0, 7-3-0 Hockey East) travels to Matthews Arena to face Northeastern (6-7-2, 3-7-2 HE) on Saturday night at 7 p.m.
The River Hawks thrived on a raucous crowd of 5,988 in the Tsongas Center on Friday to knock off #3 Boston College, 3-2. Senior David Vallorani (Hamilton, Ont.) scored a goal and an assist in the win.
Vallorani is closing in on his 100th career point, just three shy of the hallowed mark (97). The speedy forward is poised to become the 40th player in program history to reach the century barrier and just the 20th since UMass Lowell moved to Division I.
Between the pipes, sophomore goaltender Doug Carr (Hanover, Mass.) has been among the nation's elite this year--winning eight consecutive starts. Carr (9-1-0) ranks first in the NCAA in winning percentage (.900), tied for fourth in save percentage (.934) and ranks fifth in goals against average (1.80).
For the season, the River Hawks are led offensively by senior Matt Ferreira (Brampton, Ont.) with 15 points on seven goals and eight assists. Three of Ferreira's tallies have been game-winners.
Northeastern, riding a five-game winning streak as well, is powered by junior Steve Quailer (Arvada, Colo.) with 15 points (5g, 10a) and freshman Ludwig Karlsson (Stockholm, Sweden) with 14 points (6g, 8a).
The Huskies have also leaned on junior goaltender Chris Rawlings (North Delta, B.C.) who carries a .931 save percentage and 2.32 goals against average.
Following tonight, both clubs embark on their holiday breaks. UMass Lowell is off until Dec. 29, when they play RPI in the UConn Holiday Classic (Storrs, Conn.), while Northeastern stays idle until Dec. 30 when it meets Princeton in the Mariucci Classic (Minneapolis, Minn.).
