Freshman Brendan Adams (Pembroke, Mass.) was named the Northeast-10 Conference Men's Rookie of the Week Monday after placing 16th - tops among freshmen runners - at the Conference Championship Sunday at Stanley Park in Westfield, Mass.

Adams ran the 8K course in 25 minutes, 7.76 seconds and was also named to the NE-10 All-Conference Third Team. UMass Lowell placed third in the team standings with 71 points (3, 13, 14, 16, 25 - 28, 29).

Adams is the third UMass Lowell runner in the last nine seasons to earn NE-10 Freshman of the Year honors. He joins former standouts Jason Beausoleil (2003) and Ruben Sanca (2005) who each won the honor in their first years.

UMass Lowell enjoys a two-week hiatus before hosting the NCAA East Region Championship Sunday, Nov. 6 at Franklin Park. The women's 6K race begins at 1:30 while the men's 8K is slated for 2:30.

Adams is a graduate of Pembroke H.S. where he earned a plethora of cross country and track and field honors. He is the son of Jean Harnedy of Pembroke, Mass.
